About the Community of Vandalia, MI
Vandalia is a village in Penn Township, Cass County Michigan. It is part of the South Bend–Mishawaka, IN-MI, metropolitan area, often referred to as “Michiana.” Vandalia hosted a station of the Underground Railroad. An Underground Railroad memorial sign resides at Milo E. Barnes Park just off M-60. Other locations in Penn Township, in which Vandalia is located, also were affiliated with the Underground Railroad. While Vandalia was once a bustling community of retail and service business, today it is not much more than a crossroad on M-60, 5 miles east of Cassopolis. However, the many crystal clear, and mostly spring-fed lakes located in the Jones, Michigan zipcode are a big draw for residents of Illinois, Indiana, Ohio and eastern Michigan looking for weekend and summer homes that are an easy commute. The most popular lakes in the Vandalia zipcode are shown below.
